Philosophy

Where there is green,
the heart grows rich.

We design by working with nature as it is, and build gardens with care for the environment.

In the hope that our community, and the society around it, will carry on for generations to come, we work toward a life made richer by green.

Message

President and Representative Director, third generation

Atsushi Suzuki

What matters most to me is what our clients tell us. In the thirty years since I began working in landscape gardening, I have made a great many gardens, and I have learned that just as every client’s thinking and ideals are their own, no two gardens are ever the same.

Green brings the mind to rest and eases the tiredness of the day. I want to give people the pleasure of stepping out into their garden, and a garden they can enjoy for many years to come. When a client is happy with a finished garden, I am truly glad to do this work. We will go on listening, and answer each client’s vision without compromise.

I have now become chairman, and the business is passing to the next generation. What we have always held to, making gardens that let nature be itself, will not change. We make use of the plants, stones and materials already in a garden, and propose plans that are mindful of both the environment and cost.

Garden paths and the care of planting; a deck where the family can relax, a barbecue hearth to gather friends around, a pergola that casts shade. A garden where you can feel nature settles the mind and enriches every day. We will keep working to bring that richness to people’s lives.

Trained in Japanese and Western garden design at Kitagawa Zouen in Kojimachi, Tokyo, and worked on distinguished gardens for universities, the homes of prominent figures, temples and traditional ryōtei restaurants, before leading Yakigaya Zouen as its second generation.

Director, construction and planting

I keep in mind the people who will look at the garden every day, and never let skill become a reason to work for myself.

The look on a client’s face when a garden is put in order, or a new one is finished, stays with me.

Living in Japan

A Japanese garden,
close to home.

For your home or second home in Japan, or for a place that welcomes guests, such as a showroom, we make Japanese gardens, koi ponds and tea gardens, as well as Western-style gardens and exteriors, and look after them in the years that follow.

Our work takes us across Funabashi, Kamagaya, Shiroi and Ichikawa, and as far as central Tokyo.

We welcome enquiries in English. As our staff work in Japanese, the web form is the best way to write to us. Please tell us where your site is and the garden you have in mind.
